" I also think the exposure to other cultures has made connecting with the people around me more meaningful."

Hi, my name is Alexis, and I am from Portland Oregon. I am a dancer, and I love watching movies. My favorite movie is Surfs Up, and my favorite movie genre is found footage horror. I also play the violin, and I have two dogs.

WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?

The online presentation of ELTE, as well as the ranking stood out to me. I wanted to go to a prestigious university, and ELTE had a large course list to choose from.

WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?

I like the student culture here, all of the groups and social events. I also like how many study spots there are, and how beautiful the campus is.

WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?

My main challenges stem from coming from the United States. In history we are taught mostly of our own history, so European historical events are not as easy for me to study. I also felt disconnected because I didnt speak any Hungarian, or have any Hungarian family.

HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?

I overcame these challenges by studying really hard, and reaching out for help from my classmates and teachers when i need it. I also started taking Hungarian courses.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?

I would say classic, diverse, and vintage.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?

I think it will provide a strong foundation for my future goal of being a lawyer. I also think the exposure to other cultures has made connecting with the people around me more meaningful.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?

I would say don’t hesitate to ask questions. I had a lot of issues because I wanted to do everything on my own, and I find living abroad easier now that I have learned to ask for help or support.
