Hi guys! I’m Truong Dao Anh Minh, a second-year International Business Economics student from Vietnam, or should I say a third-year student, since I've just finished my second year?
Summer is just around the corner! What are your plans? Will you spend your summer in Budapest or go home? In this blog, I’ll share one of my favourite summer activities: catching sunsets in Budapest.
With summer arriving, sunset season is here again! You can expect beautiful colors, stunning views, and unforgettable evenings. Here are some of my favourite places to watch the sunset, and trust me, each spot offers something even more special than the last.
1. From Halászbástya (Fisherman’s Bastion)
This place can get quite busy because it is a popular tourist attraction. However, it is still an iconic place to start with. You can take Bus 16 from Deák Ferenc tér, climb the stairs if you feel like getting some exercise, or simply stay on the bus and let it take you all the way to the top. Perched high above the city, it offers breathtaking panoramic views of Budapest.
2. From Margit híd (Margaret Bridge)
You can get here easily by taking tram 4 or 6, or after spending a relaxing day sunbathing and having a picnic with your loved ones on Margaret Island. Watching the sunset from the bridge is the perfect way to end your day.
3. From Szabadság híd (Liberty Bridge)
Grab a drink or a pizza, find a spot on the bridge, and enjoy the view. You can watch the boats passing below while the city slowly begins to light up for the evening.
However, be mindful of the traffic and stay cautious when climbing on and off the bridge. If you need help, you can always ask someone who is already sitting there because people here are usually very friendly. Just remember to say “Köszönöm” :)
4. Along the Danube
Walking or cycling along the Danube near the Parliament may be one of the best sunset experiences in the city. You can wander along the riverbank, stop on a bench whenever you feel like it, or sit on the steps near the Parliament.
Bring a drink, relax, and wait for the Parliament to light up. It’s truly an unforgettable experience.
5. Simply wander the streets
You don’t need a famous viewpoint to enjoy a beautiful sunset. Sometimes, the best moments happen while wandering through the streets of Budapest.
I especially recommend exploring the streets around the Fisherman's Bastion. One of my favourite spots is a staircase nearby. I don't remember its exact name, but isn't that part of the fun of wandering around?
I hope this blog has given you some ideas for a fun summer activity. There are many more amazing sunset spots in Budapest, but I’ll save those for future blogs ;)
Thank you for reading, and I hope you have a wonderful summer!
