The institutional accreditation procedure of ELTE ended with outstanding success, as a result of which the Hungarian Accreditation Committee for Higher Education, in its resolution of June 19, accredited the operation of Eötvös Loránd University for the maximum possible period of five years, i.e. until June 30, 2031, without conditions.
In April 2025, ELTE initiated the new accreditation procedure, as the university's previous accreditation will expire at the end of June 2026. The accreditation is not only a quality assurance task, but is also a basic requirement for the institution’s operating license and thus its operation.
The accreditation procedure—covering ELTE’s entire institution and assessing the doctoral schools—was launched simultaneously. In the process, the MAB’s visiting committee of 21 members examined in February 2026 to what extent the university complies with the compulsory quality assurance standards in European higher education (ESG) and how it supports the continuous improvement of the quality of education, research, and student services.
More than 400 staff members and students from ELTE participated in the panel discussions with the visiting committee. The institutional accreditation procedure was concluded successfully; in its resolution of June 19, 2026, the MAB accredited the operation of ELTE for the maximum possible term of 5 years, that is, until June 30, 2031.
“The institution has an advanced quality management system, a strong strategic approach, and a high level of organizational, educational, and research performance. Its operations are characterized by a development-oriented culture, the strengthening of data-driven decision-making, and the conscious reinforcement of the strategic role of quality assurance.” – states the justification.
The resolution highlights that since the previous accreditation was obtained in 2020, significant progress has been observed in the field of training development processes, but it also calls attention to the consistent application and institutional unification of indicator-based management and the PDCA (plan, do, check, act) cycle. ELTE will submit its progress report responding to the recommendations expressed in the report to MAB by June 30, 2029.
ELTE welcomed the confirmation of its renewed quality management system and its strategic development plans based on the rector’s development program during the accreditation procedure.
