The document prepared within the framework of the accreditation procedure provides a comprehensive overview of the university's operations, its quality development processes, and the direction of its operation in accordance with international standards.
As previously reported, in the spring of 2025, the new institutional accreditation procedure of the Hungarian Accreditation Committee for Higher Education (MAB) began at the University. The accreditation concerns both the operation of the University and its 17 doctoral schools, and it is a fundamental requirement for the institution's continued operation.
As part of the procedure, the university prepared and submitted its comprehensive self-evaluation report to MAB, which presents in detail the institution's operation, its quality development processes, and its achievements to date. The self-evaluations of the doctoral schools are presented by academic discipline in so-called cluster reports.
The self-evaluation process was built on a centrally coordinated, transparent, and multi-step approval mechanism, involving all organizational units of the university. In this way, it was ensured that the information presented accurately reflects ELTE’s compliance with accreditation requirements.
The basis of the self-evaluation was provided by the self-evaluations of the faculties and other organizational units, as well as the doctoral schools, which were finalized by the A2025 Committee and the DI Cluster Committee in several rounds of consultation from April to September. The completed self-evaluation report was discussed and adopted by the university's governing bodies, faculties, and central organizational units in September and October 2025, and was approved by the A2025, DI Cluster, and Quality Development Committees. The final document was adopted by the University Senate at its meeting on November 10, 2025.
The self-evaluation reports present the University's operations and achievements over the past five years. In addition to past results, the documents also include the tasks for the future. In the coming period, the University's goal is to further strengthen its data-driven, international standards-based quality management system, which, building on previous results and processes, will ensure the University's sustainable development, social embeddedness, and international competitiveness.
Thus, the completed self-evaluation report is not only the key document of the accreditation process, but also the foundation of quality-driven academic university operation. Through this process, ELTE further strengthens its position in the national and international higher education arena and reaffirms its commitment to excellence, transparency, and continuous development.
The next step in the accreditation procedure is the on-site visit by the MAB Visiting Committee at the University, which is expected in the first half of February 2026.
