Eötvös Loránd University leads the Hungarian universities in the US News 2025 global higher education ranking, and among its 14 listed fields, it achieved outstanding results again in psychology, space sciences, and physics.
The U.S. News & World Report 2025/2026 higher education ranking has been published, evaluating 2,250 universities in 105 countries based on 13 indicators. Factors include the number of publications and conferences, global and local research reputation, the proportion of international collaborations, and the number of publications in the top 10% and 1% most cited in each field.
Among Hungarian universities, the best result was once again achieved by Eötvös Loránd University, taking 495th place in the ranking. It is followed by Semmelweis University at 562nd, University of Szeged at 817th, and University of Debrecen at 937th place.
Eötvös Loránd University appears on more US News subject rankings than ever before, featuring in 14 lists.
It ranked 134th in psychology, 135th in space sciences, and 140th in physics.
In addition to those mentioned, it is considered the best training institution in Hungary in four other fields according to US News: mathematics, earth sciences, plant and animal sciences, and social sciences. This year, ELTE appears for the first time in the rankings for computer science, engineering, and materials science. Alongside these, it was listed for biology and biochemistry, environmental science, chemistry, and clinical pharmacy, making it one of the world's top universities.
Once again, the global ranking’s top ten are comprised of American and British universities, with Harvard retaining first place.
