Hello, I’m Salem from Tripoli, Libya I like reading, playing video games, and engaging in creative activities like storytelling and writing. I also enjoy exploring new cultures and learning new languages, which makes studying in an international environment even more exciting.

"The university provides a lot of resources to help students succeed, both academically and personally."

What stood out to you about ELTE?

ELTE’s long-standing academic reputation and its welcoming international environment made it stand out to me but what made me make the choice was that my father studied at ELTE before me, and he had a great experience. The opportunity to study in a city as vibrant as Budapest was also a major factor in my decision. Additionally, the university offers a great balance between academic/interpersonal opportunities.

What makes studying at ELTE so great?

The combination of high academic standards, supportive professors, and a diverse student community makes studying at ELTE a rewarding experience. The real ace in the hole though are the choices (Countless degrees in all fields, Student clubs of all kinds). The university provides a lot of resources to help students succeed, both academically and personally.

What are / were your challenges in your study program?

Adjusting to a new academic system and balancing coursework with personal commitments was initially challenging. I do have to say it is fairer despite what I’m used to due to the structure of studies.

How did you overcome these challenges?

I stayed organized by planning my studies carefully and (very important) by reaching out for help when needed. Engaging with fellow students and joining study groups also made a big difference in navigating academic and social life. Staying open-minded and proactive in seeking support helped me overcome cultural and academic challenges.

How would you describe ELTE in three words?

Enriching, welcoming, and organized.

How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?

My degree is helping me develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills that will be useful in any career. International experience is also a great advantage for future professional opportunities. ELTE’s strong academic background and networking opportunities will also be valuable assets in my career.

Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?

Be open to new experiences, get involved in student activities, and don’t hesitate to ask for help when needed. ELTE has a lot to offer, so make the most of your time here! Also, take advantage of the cultural and professional opportunities in Budapest—it’s a great place to learn and grow.
