Hi! I am Michel from Syria. My friends would describe me as curious and always happy to help. Outside of my studies, I enjoy playing chess and taking long walks. Studying abroad has given me the chance to meet people whose perspectives have shaped the way I see the world.

"Do not wait for the "perfect" moment; start today. Take opportunities even if they seem challenging, step outside your comfort zone, and do not be afraid to make mistakes."

WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?

What stood out to me was ELTE's academic reputation and the international environment. It was exciting to be surrounded by students and researchers from so many different countries, each bringing their own experiences and perspectives.

WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?

For me, it is the combination of quality education and opportunities. Whether it is research, activities, or meeting people from around the world, there is always something that helps you grow both academically and personally.

WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?

One of the biggest challenges was adjusting to a different way of learning. I had to become more independent and think more critically. I am not afraid to say that I sometimes doubted whether I was good enough to meet expectations.

HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?

I realised I was not expected to know everything from day one. By communicating, asking questions, and being open to feedback, I became more confident and comfortable, and everything started to feel much more familiar.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?

Prestigious, Supportive, Empowering.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?

My degree is giving me not only specialised knowledge but also critical thinking, problem-solving, and scientific research skills necessary for my career. As a PhD student, I have already had the opportunity to begin my journey as a researcher, and I hope to continue contributing to science while collaborating with people from different backgrounds and preparing for higher opportunities.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?

Do not wait for the "perfect" moment; start today. Take opportunities even if they seem challenging, step outside your comfort zone, and do not be afraid to make mistakes. University is not only about earning a degree; it is about growing as a person, building connections, and discovering what you are capable of.
