WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?
ELTE stood out to me with its welcoming environment and student support services - there are a lot of events for freshmen, both academic and fun, such as the orientation week or the TáTK parties :)
The university also offers great student support services, such as free mental health consultations or support with university documentation.
My degree program also offers a great mix of both theory and practice, as well as lots of unique classes on many different topics, from the introduction to EU decision-making to political philosophy.
WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?
In my opinion, ELTE’s super international environment is one of the things that really makes a difference. Meeting so many talented people with unique backgrounds and perspectives really invites you to be more open and explorative, and spending time together (whether it’s in class or outside) creates unforgettable memories and friendships.
ELTE’s location in Budapest- the city of lights, parties, and truly the heart of Europe - is also part of the great experience. The city has a lot to offer for students - from ceramic workshops and a diverse food scene to festivals & academic conferences.
WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?
As an alumna of different exchange and academic programs, adaptation wasn’t a hardship for me. I was able to adapt to the rhythm of the city and the university itself pretty quickly, so I consider myself very lucky. Of course, the first few days there were a lot of confusion about the locations of certain stations or the stores, but those challenges disappeared with time.
One notable thing for me, though, was balancing the exam season with my personal life and work. Learning how to prioritise tasks, stay organized, and maintain a healthy work–life balance required discipline, but it also helped me develop stronger time management skills.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
To balance it all out, I started studying early and did it consistently from the beginning of the semester, so I didn’t have a load of readings to complete the day before. Another thing I was able to do was to combine hangouts with friends and studying - we went to various beautiful libraries of Budapest or cool coffee shops to prepare for the exams and have dinner and catch up afterwards.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?
Diverse, Supportive, Inspiring.
HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?
My degree will allow me to work in areas I’m most passionate about - public policy and international cooperation. I think it gives me a great amount of knowledge I need to understand international law, world politics, and economics, while also improving my critical thinking and communication skills.
In the future, I’m hoping to work in a multicultural environment, which I think ELTE prepares you really well for. So this degree will definitely serve as a strong foundation for achieving my professional goals in the future!
