My name is Ömer Emre Karakaş, and I’m from Türkiye. I’m an outgoing and curious person who enjoys meeting people from different cultures. " You learn from different perspectives and grow both personally and professionally."
What stood out to you about ELTE?
What stood out to me first was that ELTE is one of the most prestigious universities in Hungary. I was also strongly impressed by the excellent professors in my American Studies MA program. Their academic depth and teaching approach made a very positive first impression on me.
What makes studying at ELTE so great?
Studying at ELTE is great because it combines academic quality with a supportive international community. You learn from different perspectives and grow both personally and professionally. Budapest also adds a lot to the experience with its rich cultural life and student-friendly atmosphere.
What are/were your challenges in your study program?
My main challenge was adapting to a completely different education system in another country. At first, adjusting to new academic expectations, course structures, and deadlines was demanding. Balancing these with daily life in a new environment took time.
How would you describe ELTE in three words?
I overcame these challenges step by step by building a clear weekly routine and improving my time management. ELTE’s support services for international students—especially the mentoring program and other guidance units—were very helpful during my adaptation process. I also stayed in close contact with classmates and asked for help whenever needed.
How would you describe ELTE in three words?
International, Inspiring, Supportive.
How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?
My degree will help me develop strong analytical, communication, and intercultural skills. It prepares me for careers where understanding cultures, ideas, and global perspectives is essential. It also supports my long-term goal of working in international, people-focused environments.
Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?
Be proactive from day one: join student communities, attend events, and ask questions early. Build a routine and manage your time before deadlines become stressful. Connect with people from different cultures, because that is one of ELTE’s biggest strengths. And finally, enjoy Budapest—it becomes an important part of your learning journey.
