Hello! My name is Muhammad Usman Akmal, and I’m 26 years old, originally from Lahore, Pakistan. I am Muslim. I have one sister and no brothers. My father works as a manager in a private company, and my mother is a housewife. In my free time, I enjoy playing cricket, going to the gym, and reading Islamic books.

WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?

What stood out to me about ELTE is its long history of academic excellence and its diverse international community. I was also impressed by the strong reputation of the Computer Science program and the opportunity to study in Budapest, a beautiful and vibrant city. Additionally, ELTE is highly ranked among universities across Europe, which makes it a prestigious choice for students seeking quality education.

WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?

Studying at ELTE is great because of the high-quality education and the supportive professors who are always there to guide you. The program content is well-structured and up-to-date, covering the latest advancements in the field, which ensures that students receive a cutting-edge education. ELTE's strong ranking among European universities further highlights its academic prestige. Additionally, the multicultural environment allows me to meet people from all around the world, making the learning experience even more enriching and diverse.

WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?

One of the main challenges I faced was adjusting to a new academic system and culture. Balancing the heavy coursework with personal life was sometimes difficult. As a self-funded student, managing part-time work alongside my studies has been particularly challenging, as it requires careful time management to balance both responsibilities effectively.

HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?

I overcame these challenges by staying organized, managing my time effectively, and asking for help whenever I needed it. Connecting with fellow students for support and learning from their experiences was also very helpful.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?

My degree in Data Science will open many doors for me in the tech industry. It will provide me with the analytical skills and technical knowledge needed to tackle complex problems and make data-driven decisions, which are valuable in today’s digital world.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?

My advice to future students is to fully embrace the incredible diversity at ELTE. Take the opportunity to connect with people from different cultures and backgrounds—it will enrich your personal and academic experience. Make the most of your time here by staying curious, actively participating in both academic and social activities, and building a strong support network. Don't hesitate to seek help when needed, whether from professors or fellow students, and stay on top of your coursework from the very beginning. Most importantly, enjoy the journey, stay open-minded, and take advantage of everything ELTE and Budapest have to offer!
