Being highly ranked nationally and regionally definitely stood out when choosing to go to ELTE. Also, having the reputation of being one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in Hungary was the icing on the cake. Arriving there, I liked the modern campuses and the good access to information and equipment necessary for studying.

Adding to that the broad range of academic and extra-academic activities available to students, you have a complete and pleasant university experience.
What are / were your challenges in your study program?
As I was not used to the educational system, it was challenging to understand its structure and requirements at first. There were times when I felt overwhelmed with the language barrier as I was told that Hungarian is one of the hardest languages in the world. It also took me some time to get used to navigating the city. However, I found out that it doesn’t take long to pick up the useful expressions and information to use daily.
How did you overcome these challenges?
The friendly and experienced teaching staff made sure that all academic difficulties are overcome. I started planning out tasks and managing my time more efficiently to accommodate all my assignments and exams. I also had the opportunity to have supportive Hungarian and International friends that helped me surmount the cultural and linguistic barriers.
How would you describe ELTE in three words?

It is the multidisciplinary nature of the Cartography MSc program that interests me the most and motivates me to acquire a professional multidisciplinary approach. Thanks to my studies at ELTE, I managed to get an internship at a renown company for my final thesis work.
Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?
The decision to study abroad is a life-changing choice that allows students to take on an academic journey as well as a personal one. At ELTE, you will have the opportunity to get to know a wide variety of people. Get yourself noticed and join a student organization. Get to know your lecturers to get their support. Trying to meet people from outside your courses is well worth it. Find a routine that fulfills both your academic and personal life and try to stick to it. ELTE is a fine university and Budapest is a wonderful city to live in. Make sure to make the most out of this experience!
