"The great thing about studying at ELTE is the opportunity to learn from great professors, engage in diverse academic and extracurricular activities, and gain a valuable international perspective."
WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?
The research orientation of both the university and the bachelor's program. I thought that it was a great start for my exploration in research and to gain the necessary skills for the future.
WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?
The great thing about studying at ELTE is the opportunity to learn from great professors, engage in diverse academic and extracurricular activities, and gain a valuable international perspective. Moreover, I feel that the structre of the class and evaluation are on the benefit of the student. This does not mean that there is no academic pressure or the classes are easy, but that there is a space to explore beyond just what is taught in class.
WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?
As an international student living in Hungary, one of the challenges I faced during my first semester was adapting to the Hungarian culture and social norms. The majority of the class were hungarians and small friends groups were already formed. Additionally, constructing my life from scratch and finding my own place in the country.
HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?
I tried to expose myself to the Hungarian culture by participating in local events, trying traditional foods, and learning the language. I also reached out to my classmates and tried to build relationships with them, eventually finding a beautiful group that helps me to feel at home.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?
challenging, rewarding, and interdisciplinary.
HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?
This degree is a greate complement to my previous degree in International relations because I learn about the social phenomena and methodolgies that will be invaluable in my desired career path in humanitarian affairs. Additionally, the program has a strong emphasis in teaching spss, python, catma, and OTHER tools that are relevant not only academia but in other jobs related to social sciences.
DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?
My recommendation for future students at ELTE is to take full advantage of all the resources and opportunities available, including participating in research projects, internships, and study abroad programs. Don't be afraid to ask for help when needed and make connections with fellow students and faculty members. All the teachers are there for you and they can help you to navigate academic opportunities.
