Aim of the course
The course introduces the foundational mechanisms of interpersonal and intercultural communication. It addresses topics such as cultural characteristics of communication, the underlying processes of intercultural communication, its potencials as well as conflicts and conflict resolution in intercultural interaction.
The course also aims to introduce the concept of intercultural competence, its measurement and development as well as to help the application of knowledge of intercultural communication in practice.
Learning outcome, competences
knowledge:
- Knowledge of basic concepts and processes of interpersonal and intercultural communication
- Knowledge of basic concepts and processes of interpersonal and intercultural conflicts and resolving attempts.
- Knowledge of the literature, mesurements and applications of intercultural competence.
Attitude:
- Openness to interactions with people from different sociocultural background and to the professional development opportunity in these interactions.
- Sensitivity to cultural characteristics of communication.
- Acceptance of norms of intercultural communication.
Ability:
- Ability to apply the knowledge of interpersonal and intercultural communication in practice.
- Ability to continously develop intercultural competences and to apply them in practice.
- Ability to promote the resolution of interpersonal and intercultural conflicts.
