Hungarian State Scholarships
Tempus Public Foundation offers scholarships for foreign higher education students, graduates, lecturers and researchers who would like to gain further knowledge and experience in Hungarian higher education institutions, research or art institutes.
Four types of scholarships are available in the academic year 2024-2025:
- Bachelor/Master/Doctoral partial/semester studies (3-10 months)
- Full Bachelor/Master/Doctoral programme (36/24/36 months respectively)
- Short or long-term study visits (min. 3 days - max. 10 months)
- Summer courses (2-4 weeks)
Applicants for partial/semester bachelor master and doctoral studies can apply for programs held in Hungarian or English language.
Applicants for full degree bachelor, master and doctoral studies can only apply for programs held in Hungarian language (except for art studies where studies in English is possible).
Tuition fee is covered by the Hungarian state.
Eligibility to apply:
- Applications by citizens of relations that have a valid educational work plan or a bilateral agreement signed by the Hungarian Government or the Ministry of Human Capacities and the relevant ministry of the given country or territory are entitled for the scholarship.
- Applications for all types of state scholarships are available for applicants from the following relations: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America.
- Students from the following relations are eligible for full degree studies: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America.
- Students from the following relations are eligible for partial studies: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Norway, People's Republic of China, Republic of Korea, Poland, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom, United States of America.
- Students from the following relations are eligible for Study visits: Albania, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Egyipt, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kuwait, Latvia, Libanon, Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malaysia, Mexico, Mongolia, The Netherlands, Norway, India, Indonesia, People's Republic of China, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of America, Vietnam.
- Summer university courses are available for applicants from the following relations: Albania, Argentina, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Chile, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Libanon Lithuania, Luxemburg, Malaysia, Mexico The Netherlands, Norway, India, Indonesia, Poland, Portugal, Republic of Korea, Republic of the Philippines, Romania, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, United Kingdom, United States of America.
Cases of non-eligibility
- Foreign citizens with an immigration/ settlement permit or in the course of applying for such a permit in Hungary
- Dual (Hungarian-Foreign) citizens
- Foreign citizens with permanent residence in Hungary
- Foreign citizens employed as defined by the Hungarian Labour Law.
Please note that for all types of state scholarships applicants must be over 18 at the time of submitting the application.

Applicants should submit their applications in the online system of Tempus Public Foundation only.
Deadline for the application:
Semester/partial studies: 22 February 2024, 11 pm CET
Full degree studies: 22 February 2024, 11 pm CET
Short or long-term study visits: 22 February 2024, 11 pm CET
Summer course: 28 March 2024, 11 pm CET
