Course description

1. National and international regulation of animal protection. Evaluation of the ecological and conservation characters of species defining the necessary categories like: rare-frequent, endemic- cosmopolitan, common- endangered, invasive, protected, strictly protected , etc.

2. Monitoring and testing the state of the protected and threatened natural resources. Review the programmes of the National Biodiversity Monitoring System. Standard sampling methods, basic and deductive data, evaluation. Theoretical basement of the Hungarian Nature Conservation Information System.

3. The observation and characterization of indicator elements of the Hungarian associations. Composition of species, diversity, population- biological parameters. Pointing out the indicator species and groups. Defining the indicator parameters of the species.

4. Miscellaneous invertebrate assemblages of wetlands. Description and comparison of the most important Hungarian and foreign wet habitats. Introduction of the protected, strictly protected, indicator and invasive species. Theoretical and practical possibilities of the habitat preservation, rehabilitation.

5. Fish assemblages of wetlands. Ichthyological classification of national still and fresh water. Introduction of the protected, strictly protected, indicator and invasive species. Relations of fishing to economy and nature protection.

6. Terrestrial, miscellaneous invertebrate assemblages. Qualification and compering of the main terrestrial habitats. Introduction of the protected, strictly protected, indicator and invasive species. Miscellaneous invertebrate animals as key factors and indicators of the naturalness.

7. Terrestrial insect assemblages. Introduction of the protected, strictly protected, indicator and invasive species of the main types of terrestrial habitats. Comparison of natural and artificial habitats ont he basis of insect associations.

8. Amphibian and reptile fauna of different habitats. Introduction of the Hungarian amphibian and reptile species and its’ importance to the nature protection. The importance of amphibians to the nature protecting monitoring. The Hungarian and the international conditions.

9. Bird communities of the different habitats. Typical species of the main types of wetlands and terrestrial habitats (introduction of the protected, strictly protected, indicator and invasive species). Problems of species protection. The effects of global changes to the Hungarian bird fauna.

10. Mammal fauna of the different habitats. Typical species of the main kinds of wetlands and terrestrial habitats (introduction of the protected, strictly protected, indicator and invasive species). Relations of economy (game management, animal husbandry) and natura protection to mammals.

11. National Parks in Hungary The Aggtelek National Park and the Balaton Uplands National Park: Historical review of the National Parks and introduction, description of the protected and stirctly protected natural values.

12. National Parks in Hungary The Bükk National Park and Danube- Drava National Park. Historical review of the National Parks and introduction, description of the protected and stirctly protected natural values.

13. National Parks in Hungary The Danube- Ipoly National Park, Körös.Maros National Park and the Fető-Hanság National Park. Historical review of the National Parks and introduction, description of the protected and stirctly protected natural values.

14. National Parks in Hungary The Hortobágy National Park and Kiskunság National Park. Historical review of the National Parks and introduction, description of the protected and stirctly protected natural values.

15. Human effects on the Nature values. The possibilities of the sustainable economical activity. Signs and measurements of human activity. Possibilities and importance of long term observations and samplings.

The practical lectures will be blocked as compulsory field works.
