Hi! I’m Komail Shah, a curious adventurer who loves exploring new cultures and ideas. When I’m not diving into world affairs, you’ll probably find me trying out new things, getting lost in a good book, or on spontaneous city walks. I’m also always up for a friendly debate on just about anything—especially if it involves coffee!

The energy at ELTE is what grabbed me. You feel the history walking through the hallways, but it’s paired with this vibrant, international community that makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger.

WHAT STOOD OUT TO YOU ABOUT ELTE?

Honestly, the energy at ELTE is what grabbed me. You feel the history walking through the hallways, but it’s paired with this vibrant, international community that makes you feel like you’re part of something bigger. That mix of tradition and fresh perspectives really stood out to me!

WHAT MAKES STUDYING AT ELTE SO GREAT?

Besides the endless opportunities to connect with people from all over the world, I’d say the academic freedom. You can really tailor your studies to what fascinates you. Plus, the professors are open to discussion, which makes learning feel more like an intellectual adventure than just another class.

WHAT ARE / WERE YOUR CHALLENGES IN YOUR STUDY PROGRAM?

I’d say juggling all the reading assignments with, well, life. At first, it felt like there were too many texts and not enough hours in the day. But I learned how to prioritize and break things down.

HOW DID YOU OVERCOME THESE CHALLENGES?

I became best friends with to-do lists and started setting mini-goals. I also leaned and studied with my classmates a lot—we’d share notes, study together, and keep each other motivated. Plus, reminding myself why I chose this path in the first place helped during the tougher weeks.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE ELTE IN THREE WORDS?

Historic. Dynamic. Global.

HOW DO YOU THINK YOUR DEGREE WILL HELP YOU IN YOUR LIFE AND CAREER?

My degree, which Bacelor in International Relations is like a passport to understanding how the world works. It’s already giving me the tools to think critically and approach problems from multiple angles, which I know will be invaluable in any career—especially in international relations.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FUTURE STUDENTS AT ELTE?

Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone! Whether it’s attending that random lecture or joining a student organization (like ours at the IR Society), the best experiences come when you say “yes” to things that scare you a little. Also, take time to explore Budapest—it’s full of surprises!
