Why ELTE?

ELTE is the most prestigeous university in Hungary and it is well known in whole Europe. Courses thought at ELTE provide an irreplaceable theoretical insight in the material, enhanced by excellent practical exercises which allow you to maximize your potential. ELTE Doctoral School of Applied Linguistics is in my opinion the best such school in Hungary, and as a linguist who is interested in Hungarian language, I could not think of a better place to start a next step in my studies.

What do you like most about being a student at ELTE?

The staff and my colleagues at the university are very kind and ready to help. Libraries are well equipped with all the necessary literature. ELTE offers a vast amount of free time activities in which you can enrol, such as sports, music and dance groups or language learning.

What are the challenges in your study program?

The program offers many challenges, most of which are practical assignments that let you be creative. Writing papers and holding lectures at scientific conferences enable you to present your work, meet other researchers from your field and share experiences. There is a lot of serious work to be done, but when this is something that you enjoy doing, then no doubt you will be successful at it.

How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?

Having a degree form a foreign university is a great plus in one’s CV. Studying abroad and acquiring different knowledge and experience is something that employers value very much. If you want to be competitive in today’s job market, you have to have something that will stand you out from all the others. Not only a degree, but all the experience gained while acquiring that degree will do just that.

Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?

Be brave; do not be afraid of challenges and hard work. If you get stuck in some hard assignment, remember that there is always someone you can turn to for help and advice. You are not alone. Time spent studying abroad is precious and, trust me, short! So make the best of it! Try to participate in as many activities as the university has to offer, you will appreciate it later in your life. And do not forget to have fun in the process!
