“I would highly recommend the Mentor System and the ESN Events. I also started the sport “bouldering” in Ujjerö Boulder Club, which was one of the best things for me in Budapest.”
Why ELTE?
Honestly to choose Hungary and the ELTE University happened more like an accident to me. A very good accident. My first choice was already taken. Furthermore, I was aware that I was pretty late to apply for another placement. Never mind. I asked the Erasmus Office of the University of Cologne if it was still possible to apply for Budapest or if there was even a free placement. Surprisingly, I had the chance to stand up for another person who bailed out. I can’t explain my choice by words; it was more a feeling. The East becomes increasingly popular. The political attitude was interesting for me, as well.
What did you like most about being a student at ELTE?
The huge and different offer of choices and the practice in my schedule, like visiting a rehabilitation-care center, which I often miss at my home university. Different kinds of people, different places to learn, different point of views.
What were the challenges in your study program?
To find out which were the best things for me. Which courses fit and will be credited in the end of the semester; also back in Germany. To choose the courses, which I really liked and to schedule my courses from Bárczi Gusztáv Faculty of Special Education with my courses from other faculties of Eötvös Loránd University.
How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?
During my stay in Budapest I was getting more experienced, open towards other cultures, and I was able to see beyond my one borders.
Do you have any advice for future students at ELTE?
I would highly recommend the Mentor System and the ESN Events. I also started the sport “bouldering” in Ujjerö Boulder Club, which was one of the best things for me in Budapest. Search the districts where you want to live. I don’t like Facebook-groups, but they were a big help for me to find a flat. Go out, enjoy what you are doing; but also look what is your way and don’t get stressed of things “you should” see, when you’re not in the mood to see them now. Don’t stress yourself and let nobody say to you, what you have to do, because this is your year abroad.
