"In Hungary, it is among the top universities that offer numerous programs in the English language. "
What stood out to you about ELTE?
First of all, ELTE has a great worldwide academic excellence ranking and a very good reputation in the field of Social Sciences. In Hungary, it is among the top universities that offer numerous programs in the English language. In my case, after looking closely at program structure and offered classes I decided it was the one, I was looking for. Besides, ELTE is located in a marvelous city, Budapest, which will win your heart with its enchanting views and history.
What makes studying at ELTE so great?
Even though the university is very old, the methodologies and research are very modern and up to date with the culture, particularly in regard to inclusivity and equality. Professors are always trying to consider our interests and structure courses according to them or discuss the topics we are curious about. Moreover, a multicultural community teaches you to be more conscious of cultural differences and take these differences into account when challenged with adverse situations or experiences.
What are / were your challenges in your study program?
Getting used to a new educational system might be a big challenge at the very beginning of the semester. Especially keeping up with all the deadlines and assignments, socializing and exploring the city at the same time was very hard at first.
How did you overcome these challenges?
Keeping the balance is the most important. Making a detailed task timetable in Google calendar, or even a paper planner, has proven to be really effective in keeping me on track. Also, dividing and sharing notes with my classmates was very helpful during the exam period.
How would you describe ELTE in three words?
Inclusive, eclectic, and contemporary.
How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?
Being proficient in International Relations will help me understand the world around me better. I am curious about politics, as it is such an all-encompassing subject and affects so many layers of our lives. I am eager to explore how countries are divided into different socio-economic groups and how these differences affect our lives as citizens of these countries. Ultimately, I think a degree in International Relations will help me start conversations about relevant topics and enhance my understanding of the world. It is not just a diverse degree with a distinct skill set, but it is also extremely important right now in our hyper-connected, globalized society. I feel that through learning about International Relations, I will be able to have a positive impact on the real challenges that we are facing today.
Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?
Always ask questions. Since questions might bring even more questions in the future, problems typically worsen if they are not handled promptly. Procrastination, in any of its various forms, can cause a minor problem to become much more severe. If you are confused about anything or cannot understand a topic, always ask professors and the university administration, they will guide you when you need it.
During your studies at ELTE you'll have failures, but you will overcome these obstacles, you have to keep going because the payoff will come at the end!
