"It is one of the most prestigious universities in Hungary and it provides European quality education, recognized worldwide."
What stood out to you about ELTE?
It was amazing to me that the predecessor of this university was established in 1635, which makes it a university with a really long history. Additionally, it is one of the most prestigious universities in Hungary and it provides European quality education, recognized worldwide.
What makes studying at ELTE so great?
ELTE offers various degree programs in different fields of studies, as well as research opportunities, by being a national research university. In my field of studies (International Relations) there are a lot of regional subjects which reflect on world issues, not only singular cases. It helps to become prepared and gain knowledge about different cases concerning for instance foreign policy and security.
What are / were your challenges in your study program?
Most of the classes may seem very hard in the first semester, even though the classes are just introductory. However, by the end of the semester you will overcome the language difficulties and everything will make more sense (:
How did you overcome these challenges?
You will face difficulties in the beginning of your studies, but you will overcome these obstacles easily once you get to know the people you study with. There are a lot of opportunities to make new friends, as your fellow classmates are in the same ‘boat’ as you are, it’s a new place for them as well. Studying together sets the foundations for a lifelong friendship and will further help you to successfully complete your degree.
How would you describe ELTE in three words?
Opportunities, knowledge, friendship.
How do you think your degree will help you in your life and career?
I am sure that a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations will help me gain all the necessary skills and knowledge to further continue my studies and eventually become successful in the field of diplomacy and public affairs. Subjects covered in our program include all the necessary domains of studies, needed to start a career in the field of International Relations (political science, comparative politics, foreign policy, security studies, international law, constitutional law, economics, EU integration and policies- these are just a few examples of the foundations that will be covered in the first and second year).
Do you have any recommendations for future students at ELTE?
Always pay attention at lectures, because the professors know what they are talking about, even though in the beginning it might make no sense at all. Keep in touch with older students, they have gone through it all and they are usually very open to new students. Lastly, do not forget about what brought you to the university, be open to opportunities, new people, study and make your dreams come true!
