Why is ELTE a Great Choice for Your Studies? Part 1
Hey, I’m Otar, a Computer Science BSc student at ELTE. I get asked a lot about what studying at ELTE is really like: Is it hard? Are the programs well-organized? So, I thought I’d take a moment to share why I think ELTE has been such a great fit for me, and why it might be the right choice for you too.

ELTE: Where Hungary’s Best Minds Shape the Future

Hungary has a rich history of excellence in education, especially in technical fields like math and physics. Leading the way, Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) is a true powerhouse in research and innovation. With over 42,800 scientific papers and around 844,400 citations, ELTE has made a huge impact on global knowledge and discovery.

The university is home to more than 35,000 students, and about 11% are international, making it a super diverse and exciting place to study. Behind all this are 1,800 amazing professors and researchers who help students thrive.

If you’re into research, creativity, and making a difference, ELTE isn’t just a university—it’s a place to launch your future and achieve something great.

How old is actually ELTE?

One of the first things that caught my attention about ELTE is its history. The university has been around for over 380 years! Basically, it is older than some of the most famous universities in the world, even older than some countries! ELTE has been shaping knowledge for centuries. Long before the internet or smartphones were a thing. What I love here is that they manage to blend this rich history with a forward-thinking approach to education. It’s not just about learning from textbooks, but there is a deep sense of tradition here that makes everything feel meaningful.

Does ELTE have a diverse international community?

I think ELTE really stands out when it comes to diversity. You meet people from all over the world, which makes the experience way more interesting. Whether you’re doing research, doing homework or making friends from different cultures, you are constantly learning from others’ experiences. It’s a great way to expand your perspective. Likewise, make connections with people who bring something unique to the table.

What does studying at ELTE feel like?

When it comes to education, I think ELTE is amazing. The professors emphasize critical thinking and hands-on learning. It’s not about memorizing facts; it’s about engaging with the material and solving real problems. On top of that, the university offers great resources like labs, research facilities, and libraries to help you succeed. As a student, you’re equipped with everything you need to thrive.
