Student success in Ostrava
The event, which is normally attended by many university students from Europe, was cancelled for two years due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year, however, the students could attend the competition in person in the Czech Republic. About forty competitors took part in each category of the competition, mainly arriving from Central European universities. The students could enter the competition in two categories as usual: first-year and second-year undergraduates were competing against one another in Category I, while third-year Bachelor’s and Master’s students attended Category II.
The results obtained by the Mathematics students from ELTE:
- Márton Borbényi (second-year Mathematics MSc student) – 1st place in Category II
- Dávid Matolcsi (third-year Mathematics BSc student) – 2nd place in Category II
- Áron Jánosik (second-year Mathematics BSc student) – shared 2nd-3rd places in Category I
- Anett Kocsis (second-year Mathematics BSc student) – shared 5th-6th places in Category I
The team was led by Tamás Ágoston, a doctoral candidate at ELTE Institute of Mathematics, whose students have already enjoyed a lot of success in various competitions in 2020 and 2021.
