ELTE was awarded as a Sports University HU
Four Hungarian higher education institutions, including ELTE, have been ranked in the TOP 25 list compiled by the European University Sports Association.

This year, the University of Zagreb won the title of the best and most active university, while the ENNO Harms Fair Play Award was given to the women’s volleyball team of the Dutch University of Twente by EUSA. In the TOP 25 list of the most successful universities published by the organization, Hungarian University of Sport Science took the silver medal, Széchenyi István University ranked 11th, Eötvös Loránd University placed 13th, and Debrecen University finished in 15th position.

At the European University Games held in Debrecen and Miskolc from 10 to 24 July, 2024, nearly 5,000 athletes from 400 universities across 40 countries competed in 17 sports. The Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) was represented by 27 athletes across seven sports (kickboxing, karate, judo, beach volleyball, taekwondo, badminton, tennis), and our students won two gold, four silver, and two bronze medals in total.

In addition to ranking the best universities in terms of success, the European University Sports Association (EUSA) also evaluated the most active universities based on their participation in events organized by the association. In this category, the University of Zagreb ranked first, followed by Debrecen University in second place, and the Hungarian University of Sport Science in third. ELTE secured the 21st place in this ranking.

In the category of most active and successful university sports federations, the Hungarian University Sports Federation (MEFS) emerged victorious. MEFS President Lajos Mocsai hailed this first-place achievement as a significant success and a great honor.
