Zsolt Demetrovics, a professor at Eötvös Loránd University's Faculty of Education and Psychology (ELTE PPK) and its former dean, has been elected as a member of the Scientific Committee of the European Union Drugs Agency.

The European Union Drugs Agency (EUDA) was established in July 2024 as the successor to the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA), which has been operating for 30 years. Its mission focuses on enhancing the EU’s preparedness regarding drugs through four main actions: forecasting, warning, responding, and learning.

The Scientific Committee is responsible for assisting the Board of Directors and the Director of the EUDA by providing opinions on any scientific questions related to the center’s activities. Additionally, it conducts risk assessments of new psychoactive substances. This is the first time that a Hungarian member has been appointed since its establishment.
