ELTE is the best Hungarian university in the U.S. News Rankings
The U.S. News & World Report has disclosed its rankings of the top higher education institutions in 2021, evaluating this time the universities of as many as eighty-six countries. Among the Hungarian universities, Eötvös Loránd University has achieved the best position, ranking 414 and 182 among the European institutions. The next best Hungarian universities in the rankings are the Semmelweis University and the University of Debrecen, sharing the 672nd position.

ELTE is present in the list of five disciplines:
It ranks 155 in space science, 266 in physics, 230 in psychology, 445 in plant and animal science, and 543 in chemistry. ELTE also scores the highest rank among Hungarian institutions for physics, plant and animal science, space science, and psychology.
Special importance has been placed on academic achievement in the methodology used by the U.S. News & World Report. The thirteen indicators considered include, for example, the number of published papers and books, the number of citations, international collaborations, and the reputation of the institution. The top ten universities in the global rankings are again American and English institutions, and Harvard University continues to hold its No. 1 position.
