ELTE Faculty of Education and Psychology students are the best athletes of the year HU
On 15 November, the Hungarian Athletics Federation held its traditional end-of-year gala at the MOL Campus in Budapest. During the prestigious event honoring the best of 2024, four students from ELTE’s Faculty of Education and Psychology (PPK) and an alumnus from ELTE’s Faculty of Science (TTK) were awarded distinguished recognitions.

The title of Male Athlete of the Year was awarded to Bence Halász, a student of Sport and Recreation Management and Health Promotion at Faculty of Education and Psychology and a competitor for Dobó SE based in Szombathely. This year, Halász won silver medals at both the Paris Olympics and the European Championships in Rome. He has been named the face of ELTE Sports for the 2024/2025 academic year and has now been selected as Male Athlete of the Year for the sixth time. His coach, Zsolt Németh, received the Coach of the Year award.

The Male Junior Athlete of the Year award was given to Roland Imre, an athlete from Vitalitás SE, who also studies at the Faculty of Education and Psychology campus in Szombathely. The coach education student set a personal best twice in hammer throw this year, winning a silver medal at the U20 World Championships in Lima.

The Female Junior Athlete of the Year award went to Villő Viszkeleti, also a student at the Institute of Sports Sciences at the Faculty of Education and Psychology in Szombathely. The athlete from Dobó SE based in Szombathely achieved her greatest success of the year at the U20 World Championships in Lima, where she won a bronze medal in hammer throw.

Máté Vásárhelyi, a student in the undivided physical education teacher training program at at the Faculty of Education and Psychology, received the Mountain and Trail Running Athlete of the Year award. The Castor SE athlete finished second in the men’s category at the marathon in October.

Garai Ágnes Szonja, an alumna of ELTE Faculty of Science and a competitor for the ELTE Sashegyi Gepárdok, received the newly established "Ultramarathon Runner of the Year" award. The athlete, who studied biology at our university, most recently finished first in the women's category of the 42-kilometer marathon at the 39th Budapest Marathon in October.
