On May 9, Pázmány Day, the Senate of Eötvös Loránd University will award the title of doctor et professor honoris causa to Professor Koen Lenaerts, who will give an English-language lecture at the Faculty of Law entitled "Judicial Dialogue between the Court of Justice of the European Union and Hungarian Courts".

In his 45-minute lecture, President Lenaerts will look at the preliminary ruling mechanism, which is the keystone of the EU judicial system. Together with the twin principles of primacy and direct effect, that mechanism serves to ensure the uniform interpretation of EU law, the effective judicial protection of EU law rights and the equality of Member States and their citizens before the law. By reference to numerous examples taken from the case law of the Court of Justice and, in particular, to preliminary references made by Hungarian courts, President Lenaerts will contend that national courts constitute an essential building block of the EU’s constitutional structure.
